Are you ready for Sunday Funday? I’m not talking about Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, or even Easter, I’m talking about Big Game Sunday. This end of the season showdown is one of the biggest sporting events of the year, so don’t be caught off guard and be forced to throw a Hail Mary! With these helpful tips and tricks to add to your Game Day Playbook you will be a Pro in no time.
Preparing the Grocery List
This is the point where it finally starts to set in that you are about to have 5-10 people in your house and you have to cook for all of them! Don’t worry--Ever’man has you covered. In the days leading up to game day stop by Ever’man and be inspired by our tailgate themed demos (with recipes to take home), look up some crowd-pleasing recipes, or make it easier on yourself and check out all of meal solution displays at both co-op locations.
Don’t forget to schedule time to tidy up! Did you know that the Average American uses about 40 pounds of toxic household cleaning products – like chlorine bleach, formaldehyde, phosphates, and sulfuric acid each year according to reports by the Clean water fund in Washington D.C.. At Ever’man we carry a wide variety of natural cleaning products, like Seventh Generation, whose mission is to “transform the world into a healthy, sustainable & equitable place for the next seven generations”. Cleaning your household doesn’t always have to come at the cost of harming our environment. However, if you are looking to take the do it yourself check out this guide to see how everyday staples like vinegar, cornstarch, & baking soda can be used to leave your house squeaky clean.
Appetizers & Big Dishes
It is always good to have a game plan day to day, but especially when it comes to organizing a party. Figuring out the correct amount of food you will need for a group of people can be tricky sometimes, so we decided to lend you a helping hand. Check out this portion guide to tackle feeding a bigger crew!
Just like Football players need to know the positions they are playing on the field, guests need to know where their position is, or in this case where they can sit. For me this portion of planning is the most stressful, only because I want to make sure everyone is comfortable, but this next tip has helped me tremendously. Before the game begins do a final head count to determine how many people are coming and place the correct number of chairs accordingly. This allows you to play a small game of Tetris and figure out exactly how all of the pieces, a.k.a chairs, will fit.
Libations & Desserts
Can you think of a better combination than a nice dessert cheese and an ice-cold stout? Me either. Just like cheeses, beers come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and flavors, so why not set up a tasting table for the Big Game? Allow your guests to mix and match flavors to create a wonderful experience. If you don’t want to take the cheese route try any type of stout for meat or a crisp lager to counteract the smokey flavor. If you’re making a dish that is a little spicier try a nice “hoppy” Indian Pale Ale to convey the bitterness that will quench your thirst and allow the flavors of the food to come forth. For more Ideas ask your local Ever’man staff for more food & libation recommendations.
Looking to lighten the mood during Halftime? Try a good old-fashioned game of “BINGO”. Pick sites like Style Me Pretty, or Print Your Brackets, to select and print out free bingo cards. Have guests cross off specific boxes as events take place during the game, once all of their boxes have been crossed off yell BINGO and they may collect their prize.
It’s as simple as it sounds. Once the game is over you want to thank everyone who came over to watch the Big game, and send them on their way with a plate of goodies to eat later. However, if you want you can always keep all of the food for yourself and have plenty of leftovers for the rest of the week! Cleaning should be minimal, as well as moving seating back to its original place. Now you can go to bed knowing that you are now a Pro at throwing Big Game parties and next year you can retrieve your Game Day Playbook once more!
