The Cantonment area of Florida is an unincorporated community home to roughly 25,000 residents. It is located in the state’s western Panhandle between the Perdido River and Escambia River. Cantonment serves as a bedroom community for the nearby city of Pensacola. The area originally got its name from acting as a campsite for military troops in the early 19^th century, though over the years local dialects have altered its pronunciation.
